Stony Brook limits Knights to under 50 points in defensive showcase

The Stony Brook University men’s basketball team limited the Knights to under 50 points in a 55-48 victory Monday night at Island Commonwealth Arena.

Aaron Clark had 13 points and three steals for the Seawolves, while Keenan Fitzmaurice came off the bench to score 12 points. Andre Snoddy narrowly missed a double-double with eight points and 10 rebounds.

Opening and Halftime Leads

Stony Brook took control from the start, jumping out to an 11-8 lead. The Seawolves went on a 9-0 spurt to extend their lead to 20-8 with 10:56 left in the first half.

Despite a brief rally by the Knights, Stony Brook led 34-25 at halftime. Non-starters contributed 10 of the 34 first-half points scored by the Seawolves.

Tight Second Half and Key Moments

The second half was a defensive battle as both teams struggled to stay consistent on the court. However, with less than 90 seconds left in the game, Stony Brook managed to increase their deficit to seven points thanks to a 6-0 spurt.

Clark hit the game-tying shot to extend the Seawolves’ lead to nine, effectively sealing the win. Stony Brook held the lead for the remainder of the game, winning 55-48.

Defensive prowess and rebounding advantage

The Seawolves’ defence was key to their win as Ryder shot just 33.3% from the field. Stony Brook also limited the Mustangs to 14 percent shooting from beyond the three-point line.

Stony Brook outscored Ryder 42-39 and caused 14 turnovers.

Individual performances stand out

Clark had a Seawolf-high 13 points and three steals. Snoddy had eight points and a game-high 10 rebounds.
